WHERE THE BGC STARTED
The BGC was put together as an entity in 1999 by a group of guys who had formerly
been running what was commonly known as the "Sunday Golf League".
The Sunday league was kicked off by a couple of mad keen golfers in 1995, which
could see the potential in putting together a Sunday competition that brought
the golfers of Beijing together as a group. This in turn would create a great
group of people to play golf with, an arena to make new contacts and meet new
friends, push people to strive to play better golf and also give the Sunday
golfers the ability to bargain with the golf clubs to try to get the costs of
playing down. All the above have been achieved and we now have a membership
database that is growing each year as the game gains in popularity and more
people hear about us. The great thing about the weekend tournaments is that
it is open to all levels of golfers and it rewards those who hit their handicaps
or better.
WHERE IT IS GOING FOR 2008
2008 continues with the two-class competition. This benefits all players and
more of our faithful members than ever will be picking up prizes. Just play
your game as normal, and our computerized scoring system will place your class
level automatically based on your current handicap. Class A is for those with
handicaps of 18 and lower. Class B is for those with handicaps over 18. You
might be jumping between the classes when your handicap is swinging but no worries,
the overall 2008 BGC Order of Merit is worth equally many points in each group.
The BGC Match Play Championship continues is successful participation - and
this year it is FREE!! You must tick the Match Play box on your BGC application
stating that you want to join and we will match you up.
As with last year, in order to please our sponsors a winner has to be present
during prize giving after the tournaments. If not, the prize will simply be
awarded to the next contender in the list. The Order of Merit points will however
remain in the hands of the actual winner.
The sponsor situation has improved for this season. Just check the sponsors
logo on your right and see what they might be able to offer you!
Self-registration continues on the website. You can now book your own tee time
and choose who you wish to play with. You will receive a confirmation via e-mail,
and so will possible other members and guests that you are register for, and
you can also see the entire field with tee times on the web. This will help
managing your time in the mornings!
Our club remains registered with the USGA and can be found in the USGA directory.
We were the first Club registered with them in China and our handicap cards
can be used worldwide without dispute.
